Quantum Start-ups made in Germany: Navigating the Tensions of a Deep Technology
This study by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (Fraunhofer IAO and Fraunhofer HNFIZ) provides a qualitative empirical analysis of the current landscape, challenges, and strategic logic of German quantum technology start-ups ("Q-start-ups") operating within a nascent, highly dynamic deep-tech market. Based on in-depth interviews with founders and CEOs representing roughly 50% of the national quantum start-up ecosystem, the research examines how these young companies simultaneously drive technological development, shape productization, and build market structures under conditions of high uncertainty.
