About the company:

CNC Solutions was established in 2003. Since then, it has grown into a technologically advanced modern CNC machine shop with 18 CNC machining centers in total and 30 full-time employees. It operates a fully equipped, in-house, quality control department and also offers services around product design optimization, R&D and metal Additive Manufacturing. CNC Solutions is a founding member of the Hellenic Photonics Cluster. 

Challenge:

The challenge that is addressed by LASERMETT project is the development of fast and reliable, inline measurement system for performing non-contact GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) measurements in cylindrical parts, manufactured by CNC turning, which enables the application of total quality control in turning processes.

Solution:

The main objective of the LASERMETT project is the integration of a laser-based sensing element, able to measure the part directly after it is manufactured, without its removal from the CNC turning center. This will be enabled by the development of a high-accuracy mechanical system for integration of the sensing element, along with geometry reconstruction algorithms to extract the GD&T properties of the manufactured part. Interfaces with the CAD model of the part and automated toolpath generation of the measurement process will simplify the use of the LASERMETT system by CNC operators and provide them with a powerful tool for inline quality control.
