Funded solution: Rayfos
About the company:
Rayfos is a UK-based deep-tech SME building scientific software for photonics, imaging, and real-time computation. Its flagship product, WaveSimPro, is a GPU-accelerated wave-propagation solver based on the Modified Born Series method, enabling fast, memory-efficient optical simulation at previously impractical scales
Challenge:
Conventional photonic solvers (FDTD, FEM) cannot simulate centimetre-scale, high-index optical components at full fidelity without prohibitive cost, blocking simulation-first design of advanced light-shaping optics.
Solution:
PHASELENS is an industrial validation sprint in which Rayfos applies WaveSimPro to a design challenge brought by Kymatonics: advanced light-shaping optics that conventional tools cannot handle at full aperture. Built on the Modified Born Series method, the solver enables fast, memory-efficient simulation of large high-index components and automated inverse-design loops previously out of reach. The result is a reusable "simulate-to-build" workflow and a lighthouse case for simulation-first photonic design.
