Matching Mission in Poland: PhotonQBoost Builds Bridges Between Photonics, Quantum, Agrifood, and Biotech Technologies

From 21–23 October 2025, the PhotonQBoost initiative brought together European SMEs and Poland’s vibrant photonics, agrifood, and biotech ecosystems in Warsaw. The Matching Mission showcased how these technologies can revolutionize agriculture and biotechnology through advanced sensing, imaging, and automation.

Three Days of Innovation and Collaboration

The event began with a keynote presentation by Prof. Adam Ekielski from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (CEZAMAT WUT), highlighting the growing importance of photonics and quantum technologies in supporting the agrifood and biotech sectors.

The programme featured presentations from participating organizations—particularly the funded SMEs—who shared their activities and collaboration goals. The agenda also included site visits, guided workshops, and one-to-one meetings, encouraging informal exchanges and deeper dialogue.

Participants visited VIGO Photonics, a leading SME in infrared detector and module manufacturing; the Department of Mechatronics at the Warsaw University of Technology; and the CEZAMAT PW Research Centre. These visits offered an inside look at Poland’s innovation landscape and fostered direct engagement with local experts.

The mission further focused on building partnerships for upcoming Horizon Europe and PhotonQBoost-funded calls, encouraging SMEs and research organizations to explore joint proposals for photonics-driven industrial solutions. A dedicated workshop provided insights into EU funding opportunities (including those of PhotonQBoost) and practical guidance for preparing future joint projects.

Participating Organizations and Funded European SMEs

The mission gathered a diverse mix of SMEs, research institutions, and innovation clusters from across Europe, reflecting PhotonQBoost’s collaborative spirit. This broad representation underscored the mission’s success in connecting Europe’s leading photonics and quantum innovation ecosystems.

Through its SME support scheme, PhotonQBoost provided travel funding to seven European SMEs eager to explore Poland’s agrifood and biotech scene: Visratek, UpTech Labs, Surflay Nanotec GmbH, Insigma, DARLO SOFT SRL, AOTECH, and 81 Watts.

Several SMEs have already initiated follow-up discussions, confirming the mission’s role as a catalyst for sustained cross-border cooperation.
